Alberson is right choice (12/08/06)
Editorial
Sometimes the obvious choice is the right choice.
That's the case with local Republican leaders selecting Robin Alberson as the new Jay County treasurer.
Following the untimely death of Frances Milthaler in a traffic accident with her husband, the local GOP first selected Maria LeMaster, who was clearly qualified for the job. But for reasons beyond her control, she was unable to serve.
That meant going back to the table.
Second time around, there was no question that they got it right.
Alberson has already served two terms as county treasurer. She not only knows the job, she was darned good at it.
State law prohibits certain courthouse officials from serving more than two consecutive terms, a limit which makes sense. But because Alberson had been out of office, she could fill the vacancy.
For Jay County voters, the result is a win-win.
There's continuity, and there's experience. - J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
