NCC invites Jay Co.

The Patriots have been invited.
Jay County High School athletics director Bob Lutton said this morning the Patriots have been invited to join the North Central Conference.
The invitation was extended Thursday, and also called for the NCC to invite three Lafayette-area schools — Jefferson, McCutcheon and Harrison — to create a 12-team conference.
Anderson athletics director Steve Schindler would not confirm the invitation this morning, only saying that the “process is ongoing.”
Jefferson AD Mark Preston and McCutcheon AD Ryan Walden both said Friday that they had not yet received invitations from the NCC. They could not be reached for comment this morning.
Lutton said he was not sure on a timetable for when JCHS would make a decision about the invitation, but that he and principal Phil Ford still have some questions about how the conference, specifically conference scheduling and tournaments, would be structured.
If all four schools accept their invitations, the change would likely go into effect for the 2014-15 school year.
The invitation extended to Jay County stated that if all four schools join, the NCC would be divided into two divisions.
Muncie Central, Richmond, New Castle, Anderson, Huntington North and the Patriots would form the East Division, with Marion, Kokomo, Logansport, Jefferson, McCutcheon and Harrison playing in the West.
The format for conference championships and tournaments has not been finalized.
Jay County is in its third season competing as an independent after the Olympic Athletic Conference dissolved in 2010 when Anderson Highland and Anderson consolidated, leaving the OAC with just three teams. Former OAC member Connersville will join the Eastern Indiana Conference next season, while Muncie Southside had also applied to become a member of the NCC.
Harrison, McCutcheon and Jefferson have all been looking for a conference solution since the Hoosier Crossroads Conference announced in December that it would cut ties with them in order to form a league consisting of all Indianapolis-area schools.
McCutcheon and Harrison were part of the Olympic Conference along with Jay County before leaving for the HCC in 1999, and Jefferson was in the NCC for more than 70 years before departing for the HCC in 2003.
Representatives from the North Central Conference visited JCHS and Southside on Jan. 30 to tour facilities and talk with administrators and coaches. They had visited the three Lafayette-area schools on Jan. 24.
The North Central Conference has been in existence since 1926 with Muncie Central, New Castle, Richmond, Kokomo, Logansport and Anderson all as original members. Marion joined the group four years later.
