MUNCIE — The Patriots were one spot away from going to regional last year.
This season, a senior missed it on the 19th hole.
Mackenzie Parks, a Jay County High School senior, fell just short of advancing another week as she lost a playoff in the sectional tournament Saturday at Crestview Golf Course.
Jay County, which was fourth a year ago, shot 398 to place seventh. Winchester won the program’s first sectional title with its score of 360, beating Daleville by two strokes. Muncie Central shot 383 for third.
The top three scoring teams and the three individuals not on advancing squads qualify for the regional tournament.
Parks shot 92 to lead the Patriots, but fell to Delta’s Laura Fowler in the playoff that lasted just one hole. Victoria Hood of Wapahani and Bella Lapierre of Yorktown both shot 91 to earn the other two regional qualifications.
Abby Huey shot 99 to join Parks in double figures. Raquel Wehrly shot 101, including a birdie on the par-4 15th hole, and Eden Basford totaled 106 to complete the team’s total. Erika Heitkamp also competed but her 112 did not factor into the overall score.
Bruns misses POY
MINSTER, Ohio — A mere 2.5 points separated Fort Recovery sophomore Jalyn Bruns from earning Midwest Athletic Conference player of the year.
