Three Jay County residents have been recognized by the Indiana Holstein Association for their lifetime accomplishments.
Dave Gierhart, rural Bryant, was recognized as the 2012 Indiana Master Breeder.
Bill and Shirley Powell, formerly of rural Pennville and now of rural Portland, received the Honorary Lifetime Member Award.
Gierhart and his wife JoAnn have been in the dairy business for more than 40 years. Ten of their animals have received All American and Junior All American recognition.
The Powells have had some of the premier Holsteins in the nation. Their honors include a 1969 Grand Champion and Supreme Champion at the Chicago International Show and a 1983 Junior Champion heifer at the World Dairy Expo. Their Penn Grove Quinn was a four-time All-American nominee.

The deadline to enroll in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) this year is Friday, April 6.
Producers who want to offer eligible land for CRP’s competitive general sign-up may enroll at the Farm Service Agency county office.
CRP is a voluntary program that protects environmentally sensitive land.
