Jay County 4-H will hold an event this month for members to sign up for projects and have a little fun in the process.

The Fall Family Festival is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 19 at the 4-H Exhibit Hall at Jay County Fairgrounds.

In addition to being able to enroll for 4-H projects — each member who does so will get a prize — there will also be games and workshops. Food will also be available.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (260) 726-4707.

Hanlin recognized

Hanlin Farms of Pennville was recognized recently as one of the largest Angus beef cattle operations in the state.

According to the American Angus Association, Hanlin tied for ninth during fiscal year 2017 in terms of registering Angus beef cattle in Indiana.

Accepting applications

Indiana State Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for livestock promotion and market development grants.

The grants are available to non-profit groups that involve cattle, swine, sheep, equine, goats, poultry and rabbits. They provide funding for “value-added feasibility studies, research projects, market development or other projects that encourage the growth of business and industry related to livestock production, processing and/or distribution.” Also eligible are educational programs and livestock shows.
