Holdman to chair

State Sen. Travis Holdman has been reappointed as chair of the Indiana Senate committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy.

Senate president pro-tem Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) announced the appointment Wednesday.

Holdman (R-Markle), who represents Jay County, will also be on the Senate Committee on Appropriations and the Senate Committee on Rules and Legislative Procedures.

"Through my roles as chair of the Senate Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy and member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, I will work hard to find effective solutions facing our state due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic," Holdman said in a press release. "I look forward to crafting an honestly balanced budget with members of the General Assembly on both sides of the aisle."



Deer hit

A Portland woman drove into a deer about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Sharol A. Fullenkamp, 64, was driving north on county road 700 East just south of the Indiana 26 intersection when she hit the animal with her 2014 Lincoln MKZ. Damage is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
