Horse buggy accident
A Bryant woman was injured after a Montpelier man drove into her horse-drawn buggy on Bryant Pike at its split with U.S. 27 at 6:10 p.m. Friday.
Ann D. Schwartz, 50, was ejected from the buggy but did not seek immediate medical attention, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office accident report.
Larry W. McKinney, 73, was approaching Bryant Pike from the highway in the northbound lane when he drove into the buggy. He said he failed to see the buggy, according to the accident report.
Damage was estimated between $25,000 and $50,000. Schwartz’s horse died as a result of the accident. McKinney was driving his 2002 Chevy Avalanche.
Slide off
Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000 after a Portland man lost control of his vehicle and drove off the side of Indiana 1 north of its intersection with county road 650 North at 10:20 p.m. Thursday.
Dustin A. Journay, 35, was northbound on the highway when he drove over a patch of ice and lost control of his vehicle and drove off the east side of the highway and into a ditch. He was driving a 2007 Ford F150 registered to Eldon D. Journay, Portland.
Deer hit
Residents of Jay County were reportedly involved in two deer-related accidents Saturday.
Darus M. Hime, 56, Portland, was northbound on Boundary Pike near county road 650 South at 8:10 a.m. when a deer ran in front of his 2007 Chevy K2500. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500 after a deer ran in front of a northbound 2012 Jeep Compass being driven by Crystal R. Suman, 39, Pennville, on county road 750 West south of its intersection with county road 650 North at 7:45 p.m.
Intersection collision
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500 after two Portland residents were involved in an accident at the intersection of Walnut and Hayes streets at 7:17 p.m. Saturday in Portland.
Paul L. Minnich, 85, proceeded through the four-way stop in his 2018 Jeep Compass and drove into the side of a 2017 Dodge Ram being driven by Shane C. Harrison, 44.
Bus backed into car
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500 after a Jay School Corporation bus driver backed a bus into a car in a parking lot at 430 W. Lafayette St., Portland.
Richard L. Davis, 62, Dunkirk, backed the bus into a parked 2004 Buick LeSabre registered to Julia A. Rhodehamel, Portland.
Family Dollar accident
A Portland man backed into a parked car while attempting to leave the Family Dollar parking lot at 12:54 p.m. Saturday.
Chad J. Timmerman, 41, backed his 1999 Chevy Silverado into a parked 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan registered to Lacy and Kyle Overla, Portland. Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
