Drunk driving
A Portland man was involved in two accidents, one in Portland city limits and another on the outskirts of town on Boundary Pike, in a short span of time at 1 a.m. Saturday.
Terry A. Coby, 36, was later given a preliminary breath test for alcohol-blood content and was preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor.
Prior to crashing his car into a pole off the west side of Boundary Pike near its intersection with county road 200 South, Coby failed to stop after driving into the back of a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee while southbound on Meridian Street south of its intersection with Third Street.
Scottie A. Swingley, 54, Portland, was driving the Jeep and followed Coby outside of town, according to a Portland Police Department accident report. Damage in that accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Damage in Coby’s single-car accident was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000. That accident was caused after he lost control of his 2009 Honda Civic while southbound on Boundary Pike. He eventually drove into a pole because he was driving too fast, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office accident report.
Swingley’s Jeep is registered to CCAP Auto Lease, Fort Worth, Texas.
Chain reaction
A Redkey woman drove into the back of another vehicle while in traffic, causing about 3:40 p.m. Friday.
Jennifer L. McDavid, 63, was driving her 2018 Kia Motors Optima southwest on Indiana 67 when traffic slowed. As it began to pick up, she looked to the right, and when she looked back to the road, traffic had stopped again, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report.
Her vehicle collided with the rear of a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by Hannah M. Vore, 25. Vore’s car was then forced forward, causing it to hit a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Cherie R. Walter, 19, and pushing Walter’s car to hit a 2018 Ford Fusion driven by Alexandra J. Mosser, 20.
Both the vehicles driven by McDavid and Vore were towed from the scene. Damage is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
T-boned in Portland
Damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000 after a Portland woman drove into the side of another Portland woman’s vehicle on Water Street in Portland at 8:25 a.m. Monday.
Brittanie L. Dailey, 33, said she failed to notice oncoming traffic when she pulled out out of an alleyway and onto Water Street where she drove into the driver-side of an eastbound 2015 Toyota RAV4 being driven by Mary E. Brotherton, 72.
That Toyota is registered to Wayne A. Brotherton, Portland. Dailey was driving her 2014 Ford Flex.
Deer hit
A Fort Recovery man drove into a deer on Indiana 26 about 11:48 p.m. Monday.
Kyle J. Knapke, 22, was driving east on the highway just west of county road 700 East when he hit the deer with his 2017 Dodge Ram. Damage is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
