Herbert Lee Bone, age 83, of Pennville passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Lee was born in Portland on March 22, 1938, the son of Elza and Mary (Wiley) Bone.

Beginning his career as a cabinet maker at Pennville Custom Cabinets, he soon became a businessman, establishing the partnership of B & R Kitchens.

He was a 1956 Portland High School graduate who believed in the importance of serving his community. Lee served as a volunteer fireman for many years, was actively involved on the Jay County Development Corporation board, served as treasurer of the Pennville Syndicate and was a member of the Jay County Chamber of Commerce, where he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Surviving are one son, Matthew Bone (wife: Amanda) of Pennville; one daughter, Melinda Hopkins of Leo, Indiana; and one sister, Jane Cummins (husband: Dick) of Portland; Pat Bone, mother of Lee's children; one son-in-law, Chip Teegarden; and grandchildren Chelsea Teegarden, Hunter Teegarden, Jarran Teegarden, Kennedi Teegarden, Daniel Hopkins, Amanda Hopkins, Reagan Hopkins, John Harris and Katie Bone.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michele Teegarden; and grandson Jordan Teegarden.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.

Baird-Freeman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
