J. Karon (Ford) Gore, 74, of Redkey, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.

Karon was born in Portland, Indiana, on Feb. 23, 1945, a daughter of the late O. Roberta (Hathaway) and Max L. Ford. She was a 1963 graduate of Redkey High School and a life member of Main Street United Methodist Church of Redkey, Women's Life, Gamma Nu Sorority, Local Union 96 and the IU Health Jay Hospital Auxiliary.

Karon served in the U.S. Women’s Army Corps as a private first class in the Vietnam War. After completing her service she returned home where she became a packing inspector at Armstrong Cork, Kerr Glass and Ball Foster Glass companies.

Following retirement, Karon continued her service to her community by volunteering for many organizations, including Jay County Hospital and Gift Shop.

She was the widow of Garnet Gore.

Karon enjoyed knitting, sewing, crafts, gardening, flowers, canning, reading, crossword puzzles, listening to traditional country music and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Matthew G. Gore (April Parker); daughter Leatta Woodard (husband: Forrest); brother Ferral Ford; sister Madonna Sager; aunt and special friend Lynn Ragsdale; six grandchildren, Jamie Fitzwater, John Jewell, Jared Gore, Lucas Gore, Dawson Gore and Mason Gore; and four great-grandchildren, Camellia and Hazel Fitzwater, and Jensen and Noah Jewell.

Karon was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband Garnet; brother Robin Lee Ford; and sister Ardith Dawson.

Friends are invited to call Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries – Redkey Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Joe Hines officiating. Burial will be held in Hillcrest Cemetery, Redkey, Indiana, with military honors performed by the Ridgeville American Legion Post #507 and the Randolph County Veterans.
