Biden is wrong about legislation
Letters to the Editor
Friday, July 1, 2022 12:29 PM
To the editor:
When President Joe Biden says that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act gives gun manufacturers more protection from liability than other companies he is flat out lying as he has done on almost every gun control issue in the last 50 years.
Gun manufacturers are bound by the same liability laws as any other company with one minor exception. If some drunk driver kills with a Ford Taurus and the victim’s family tries to sue Ford, the judge will declare it a frivolous lawsuit and throw it out before a trial even begins. But if someone is killed with a Remington firearm and the company is sued, a biased, liberal, gun-hating judge will let the frivolous lawsuit go to court costing Remington millions to defend in court.
Using that judicial bias to bankrupt gun companies out of existence was the plan of the anti-gun Democrats and billionaire New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act was passed to protect the firearms industry from frivolous lawsuits that should be thrown out of court.
If arms manufacturers break the law or make a defective product they can be sued just like any other company.
