FR gets walk-off win
Fort Recovery roundup
Friday, April 22, 2022 12:52 PM
FORT RECOVERY — The Indians were staring at a second conference 2loss in the span of three days.
Then they found some seventh-inning magic.
Kendrik Wendel delivered a walk-off win for the Fort Recovery High School baseball team Thursday as the Indians scored four times in the final frame to knock off St. Henry 6-5.
St. Henry (8-4, 3-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) had been in control of the game throughout, scoring twice in the top of the first inning and again in the third for a 4-0 lead. The Indians (8-4, 3-2), who lost Tuesday to Marion Local, were down 5-2 heading into the final frame before mounting their comeback that was capped by Wendel’s game-winning hit.
Wendel had a big day at the plate overall, going 3-for 4 with two RBIs. Cale Rammel also had three hits, including two doubles, three RBIs and a run. Landon Post scored twice for the Tribe.
Alex Dues picked up the win thanks to tossing 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Softball doubled up
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team suffered its first MAC loss of the season with a 14-7 defeat Thursday.
St. Henry (5-7, 3-2 MAC) took charge with five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed. The Indians (9-3, 2-1 MAC) got to within two runs twice, but the home team pulled away thanks to another five-run frame in the fifth.
Errors crushed the Tribe, as all five runs scored against starter Jackie Homan were unearned. She took the loss, giving up three hits in the first inning.
Chloey Grisez was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI to lead the FRHS offense. Sophie Pearson added two doubles, a single and an RBI.
