Local roundup
Tuesday, August 11, 2020 11:57 AM
VAN WERT, Ohio — Jalyn Bruns beat her own school record.
The Indians set a new one as a team, too.
Bruns bested her school record round by four shots and the Fort Recovery High School girls golf team had a new low total as well on Monday as the Indians finished runner-up at the Lincolnview Lancer Invitational at Willow Bend Country Club.
Wayne Trace won the six-tea tournament with 367, and Fort Recovery’s record round was 377. Fairview was third with 396.
Bruns, a junior, shot 79 to lead the Indians and lower her school record of 83 she set the beginning of her sophomore year.
Classmate Shelby Stammen shot 90 for second on the team, and Alli Vaughn’s 97 was third. Kendra Dues completed the team score with her 111, edging teammate Trisha Gaerke by one stroke.

Matt’s outlasts Williams
Despite being out-hit 20-16, Matt’s Garage earned an 11-8 victory against Williams Auth Parts on Monday in PJL’s Rookie baseball division.
Deric Coons hit a home run, a triple and a single with three runs and an RBI to lead Matt’s. Benson Armstrong collected three doubles, five RBIs and three runs, while Easton Steed hit three singles with three RBIs and a run.
Eli Westgerdes hit two home runs with a double and a single to go alongside his four RBIs and three runs in the Williams loss. Kellen Keys recorded two doubles and two singles. Javier Casillas hit a triple and two singles.
