Local roundup
Wednesday, August 12, 2020 11:32 AM
CELINA, Ohio — Derek Lochtefeld finished in the top five.
The Tribe squad did as well.
Lochtefeld was fourth overall and the Fort Recovery High School boys golf team opened its season by placing third Tuesday in the Mercer County Championships at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
St. Henry, led by individual champion Sam Koesters, shot 346 for the team title. Coldwater was second with 354, and Fort Recovery had 372 for third out of six teams.
Lochtefeld led the Indians with an 84, good enough for fourth overall and a spot on the all-tournament team. Carson Rammel was second for the Indians with his 90, six strokes ahead of Cole Muhlenkamp. Zander Kunkler completed the team score with 102.
Russell Gehle (109) and AJ Romer (118) also competed but they did not factor into the team total.
In the junior varsity tournament, Isaac LeFevre and Carson Siefring were first and second, respectively, helping the Indians take the team championship with a 433.
LeFevre shot 94, and Siefring had 103. Seth Lochtefeld (113) and Gavin Faller (123) contributed to the team total.
Optimist moves on
In a close tilt, Optimist edged Jay County REMC 8-7 Tuesday and advanced in the Portland Junior League Rookie softball tournament.
Ali Clark homered for Optimist while adding three singles and two runs. Aleah Roush collected four singles and Alieah Cox had three singles. Both scored twice.
Haley Comer and Danica Chowning finished with three singles each. Comer reached home three times and Chowning crossed the plate twice. Shylynn Blowers doubled with three singles.
