A batter doesn't always have to put the ball in play to help the team win.
Ashlynn Brunswick scored on a passed ball to give Fisher Meats a 7-6 walk-off victory against Crossroads Financial Federal Credit Union on Wednesday in Portland Junior League’s Minor softball division.
Jay County Therapeutics won its game in the same division, while Optimist was victorious in Rookie softball action.
The back-and-forth affair between Fisher and Crossroads had Fisher jump out to a 2-0 lead on a triple from Ayla Jackson. Crossroads took a 3-2 lead and stayed out front until the comeback in the final inning.
Calie Yates earned the win pitching for Fisher, striking out nine batters in four innings while contributing a single and an RBI at the plate.
Hallie Schwieterman of Crossroads hit an inside-the-park solo home run, and Karsyn Schwieterman doubled with two RBIs. Hailiee Randall chipped in a single.
In an offensive struggle, Jay County Therapeutics defeated Display Craft 7-4 during a game that featured just one hit for each team.
Brenna Brewster singled for Jay County Therapeutics, and Kayleigh Stevenson had a base hit for Display Craft.
Conversely, Optimist tallied 16 hits in defeating Rock Church 12-3.
Ali Clark hit a grand slam for Opitimist while also adding a triple, a single and three runs. Kamzy Johnson contributed three singles and a run, and Aleah Roush singled twice with two runs. Brinley Steed collected a pair of singles and a run as Rylee Jordan singled and scored once.
Madilyn Curtis hit a double, a single and scored a run. Ellie Wiggins singled with two runs, and Channa Butler and Chloe Yates each added a pair of singles. Bella Barnett singled once.
