Matt’s wins to advance
Portland Junior League
Barnett’s was the regular season champion.
Matt’s knocked them out of the tournament Wednesday.
Deric Coons and Blake Jellison both had five hits and combined for seven RBIs in leading Matt’s Garage past Barnett’s Auto Parts 23-10 on Wednesday to advance in Portland Junior League’s Rookie baseball tournament.
Pioneer Packaging defeated All-Circuit Electrical 20-5 as well to set up Friday’s championship tilt.
Coons hit a home run, four singles, drove in five runs and scored five times for Matt’s Garage. Jellison chipped in five singles and two RBIs while reaching home five times as well.
Tanner Day, Benson Armstrong and Luke Jellison each added four singles for Matts. Armstrong knocked in three runs and Day scored three times.
Sawyer Hemmelgarn and Kendal Glessner both homered in the loss for Williams Auto Parts. Glessner also tripled, while Hemmelgarn knocked in two RBIs. Finn Hemmelgarn collected two triples, a single, three RBIs and two runs, as Tuck Hemmelgarn doubled with two singles and scored three times.
Pioneer benefitted from a pair of triples, a double and a single by Gabe Bentz to get its victory. Karson Schilling and Easton Johnson hit a triple and double respectively while both adding three singles.
All-Circuit was led by Tyan Rogers’ triple and single. Griffin Lambert added three singles and Ryder Stephens had a pair of singles.
In Willie Mays action on Thursday, Lions Club edged Priority Roofing 2-1. Eli Stockton and Aryon combined for 15 strikeouts in leading Lions to its win.
Jax Wanner had two singles for Priority, and Gabe Steiner singled.
