PONETO — A sacrifice fly in the first inning. A single two frames later. No-hit ball for six innings.

That’s all the Jay County High School baseball team needed for a 2-0 win over the host Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday.

Austin Curts hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning, scoring Sam Myers for the only run the Patriots (7-6, 2-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) really needed. But two innings later, Curts singled to bring home Crosby Heniser for an insurance run.

And on the hill, Sam Dunlavy (3 2/3 innings, two walks, four strikeouts) and Lane Chapman (1 1/3 innings, one walk, three strikeouts) kept the Raiders without a hit.

Southern Wells broke up the no-hit bid in the sixth inning with back-to-back singles off Blake Caldwell. He ended up striking out five in two innings of work.

Gavin Myers, Sam Myers, Dusty Pearson, Dunlavy, Chapman, Caldwell and Curts all had singles for the Patriots.
