Arlo Gettinger, age 71, a resident of Portland, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.

Arlo was born June 25, 1950, in Muncie, Indiana, the son of Robert and Mary (Roth) Gettinger. Arlo graduated from Portland High School in 1968 and served during the Vietnam War with the United States Marine Corps. He retired from the Portland Forge as a hammer operator after over 40 years.

Arlo was a member of the Boilermaker Union, NRA and Salamonia Volunteer Fire Department.

Arlo married Vickie Bailey on July 6, 1970.

One daughter — Jennifer Gettinger (Chad Hollingsworth), Dunkirk, Indiana

One sister — Sandra Satterfield (Kirk), Ohio

One brother — Charles Ford, Florida

Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren

Visitation will be held Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

American Legion Post #211 of Portland will conduct military rites at the funeral home.
