CELINA, Ohio — One stroke separated the Fort Recovery High School boys golf team from its best score of the season.
Derek Backs fired a 40 to earn match medalist honors as the Indians defeated conference foe Parkway 176-211 Friday at Mercer County Elks Country Club.
With his score of 40, Backs improved his season-best score by one stroke.
Nick Litmer and Chase Bruns both shot 44, and Jackson Hobbs turned in a 48 on his scorecard as No. 4 golfer for the Indians.
Fort Recovery pushed its record to 2-1 and 1-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.
Tribe girls second
VAN WERT, Ohio — Five of the six Fort Recovery girls golfers turned in their lowest score of the season.
Tori Vaughn shot a 93 — she placed sixth overall — as she took 13 strokes off her season-best score to lead the Indians to a second-place Friday in the Lady Lancer Invitational hosted by Lincolnview at Hickory Sticks Golf Club.
Trisha Thien was Fort Recovery’s No. 2 golfer with a 101. Cori Stone (112) and Elli Keller (116) rounded out the Tribe’s team score.
Emily Bruns (119) and Sophie Timmerman (160) did not factor into the team score.
Bruns, Keller, Stone and Timmerman all lowered their season best scores for an 18-hole invitational.
