Jay Co. evens record with win

EDGEWOOD — Two Jay County golfers posted season-best scores Monday in a win over the host Anderson Indians.
Malarie Houck shot a 47 and Maddison Baughn tallied a 53 in leading the Patriot girls golf team to a 206-232 win at Edgewood Golf Club.
It was also the Patriots’ lowest team score of the season, eight strokes better than Thursday’s mark of 214.
Sydney Mathias had a 51 as the No. 2 score for Jay County, which evens its record at 2-2. Brooke Sanders closed out the team score with a 55.
Alyssa Culy (58) and Carlie Wickey (64) also competed for the Patriots.
Wildcats top Tribe
MINSTER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team lost its first conference match of the season Monday, 164-179 to the Minster Wildcats at Arrowhead Golf Club.
Nick Litmer fired a season-best 43 to lead the Indians (2-2, 1-1 Midwest Athletic Conference). Chase Bruns and Derek Backs both followed at 45, and Cole Wendel was one stroke behind with a 46.
Minster’s Xavier Francis was the match medalist with a 3-over-par 39.
Micaiah Cox shot a season-best 47, but wasn’t able to factor into the Indians’ team score. Jackson Hobbs (50) also competed for Fort Recovery.
Tribe falls to ’Cats
CELINA, Ohio — Cori Stone posted her lowest score of the season, but the Fort Recovery girls golf team lost Monday to MAC foe Minster, 211-231, at Mercer County Elks Country Club.
Stone led the Indians (4-1, 1-1 MAC) with a 52, one stroke better than her previous best she recorded at Prairie View.
Tori Vaughn shot a 55 as Fort Recovery’s No. 2 golfer, and Trisha Thein (59) and Emily Bruns (65) rounded out the team score.
Elli Keller (66) and Sophie Timmerman (85) also competed for the Tribe.
