Willis earns match honors

NEW HAVEN — Sydney Willis of South Adams shot a 5-over-par 77 to earn match medalist honors Saturday in the New Haven Bulldog Invitational at Whispering Creek Golf Club.
The Starfires were 12th in the 18-team tournament with a 393. Leo won the invitational with a 350, East Noble was second with a 363 and Carroll placed third with a 366.
Alleigh Wingler shot a 97 for the Starfires’ No. 2 score. Jaci Gorell and Amy Schwartz posted scores of 106 and 113 respectively. Kelli Lehman also competed for South Adams, finishing at 115.
It was the third time this season Willis has earned match medalist, and her first in an 18-hole tournament.

CELINA — The Fort Recovery volleyball team opened its season Saturday with a runner-up finish at the Mercer County Health Invitational.
The Indians (2-1) beat Celina 25-14, 28-26 and Greenville 25-11, 25-14, and lost to Versailles 25-18, 25-18.
Kendra Siefring led the Indians with 20 kills and 19 blocks in the tournament. She also had 10 digs.
Cassidy Rammel had 17 kills, and posted team highs in digs (13) and assists (28). Tori Lennartz tallied 14 kills.
Madison Grover recorded 11 digs, and Morgan Lennartz had 11 kills to go with her seven blocks.
Rachel?Pugh was 34-of-35 serving with six aces, and Kirsten Jutte recorded three aces as she went 44-of-45 from the service line. Jutte also tallied 19 assists.
