Patriots girls blow out Warriors

WOODBURN — Gabbie Mann recorded her second hat trick in as many games Monday, helping the Jay County High School girls soccer team to a 7-0 blowout of the host Woodlan Warriors.
The game was called 13 minutes into the second half because of darkness following two lightning delays.
Jay County (2-1, 2-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) scored five goals in the first half over its new conference foe. The Patriots tacked on two more in the second half before the match was halted.
Senior Catherine Dunn scored two goals — her second and third of the season — one of which was on a header from Stormi Canterbury. Mariah Bailey also found twine for her first goal of the season.
Canterbury added two assists and Mann had one.
Lilly Rogers and Emily Pogue shared goalkeeping duties to earn the shutout.

Jay falls in PKs
The Jay County boys soccer team got its first taste of ACAC overtime penalty kicks on Monday.
It wasn’t a favorable outcome.
Jay County (0-2-1, 0-2) and the Woodlan Warriors took a 2-2 tie into overtime, and after two scoreless extra periods, the Warriors outscored the Patriots 3-1 to win, 3-2.
The Warriors opened the game with a goal 10 minutes into the first half. Jay County’s Jared Schlosser evened the score 10 minutes later with his second goal of the season on an assist from Angel Perez. Jalen Ryder put the Patriots on top with five minutes left in the opening half.
Woodlan scored the equalizer in the second half before the game went into penalty kicks.

Tribe tops Rangers
MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys golf team won its second Midwest Athletic Conference match of the season Monday, 171-217, over the host New Knoxville Rangers at Arrowhead Golf Club.
Fort Recovery’s score of 171 was five strokes better than its previous best team score of 176, set Aug. 15 against Parkway.
Chase Bruns earned match medalist honors for the third straight match, tying his season-low score of 39.
Nick Litmer followed Bruns with his season-best score of 43. Jackson Hobbs (44) and Micaiah Cox (45) were the No. 3 and No. 4 golfers for Fort Recovery (3-4, 2-3 MAC).
Derek Backs and Cole Wendel also competed for the Indians, shooting 52 and 56 respectively.

Fort girls win
ARCANUM, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls golf team beat the Tri-Village Patriots, 235-270, Monday at Beechwood Golf Course.
Tori Vaughn led the Indians with a 52, and Trisha Thien shot a 58. Cori Stone (66) and Emily Bruns (67) rounded out the Tribe’s team score.
Also competing for the Indians were Elli Keller (69) and Sophie Timmerman (84).
Fort Recovery improved to 5-2 on the season, with a 1-2 record in MAC play.

Delta JV tops Jay
MUNCIE — The Jay County junior varsity football team lost to host Delta, 30-8, on Monday.
Kyle Blankenship scored the lone touchdown for the Patriots, who fall to 0-1 on the season.
Jay County’s freshman team also lost Monday, 38-0 at home to Eastbrook’s junior varsity team.
