Bell gets split vote on growth
Business Roundup
Bell Aquaculture’s proposed expansion of its Albany facility may be going forward, thanks to a vote Thursday night by the Delaware County Metropolitan Board of Zoning Appeals.
Approval, however, came on a 4-3 split vote, The StarPress reported. And that vote came after the Albany Town Council weighed in with a 5-0 vote in opposition to the project.
Bell raises yellow perch, salmon and trout at its Albany site and processes the fish at its Redkey facility.
According to The StarPress, attorney John Brooke told the board of zoning appeals that Albany officials opposed a variance for the expansion because of concerns over truck traffic, potential odor and drainage issues.
The proposed expansion involves an investment of about $30 million.
