Champ shares medalist honors at HLGC (08/24/07)

RICHMOND - Trisha Champ shared medalist honors, but there were three more Red Devils right on her heels.
Champ and Richmond's Trisha Witherby each finished at 39 at Highland Lake Golf Course, and the host Red Devils added three more scores of 42 or better Thursday to hand the Jay County girls golf team its first dual-meet defeat by a 162-198 final.
Champ bounced back from a double-bogey on the first hole at and played well the rest of the way. She had her lone birdie on the 165-yard, par-3 second hole and followed with three straight pars.
The senior finished out her round with two bogies and two pars for her 3-over-par 39.
Witherby and Champ were trailed by Ashtyn Brown (40), Anna Trotter (41) and Ashley Mullin (42), all of Richmond.
Jennifer Hunt turned in the No. 2 score for the Patriots (2-1) with a two-par round for a 52. She played even on the second hole and the 181-yard, par-3 eighth and added three bogies.
Ivy Simons had three bogies for a 53, and Cara Garringer also had three bogies as she capped the Patriot team score with a 54. Rachel Osterholt shot 55.
Junior varsity
The Patriots had three career-best scores for a team total of 218. Richmond did not have a JV team.
Abbey Denney shot a career-best 54 to share the team lead with Macey Gerber. Alex Bunch and Brittany Schlater each shot 55 to complete the team score.
