CTS selling off a part of biz

CTS, the Elkhart-based company that was once a major regional employer with a plant in Berne, is selling its electronic manufacturing solutions business, The Associated Press reported this week.
The $75 million deal sends the business to Benchmark Electronics Inc. and involves plants in California, New Hampshire, Mexico, and Thailand employing about 1,000 people.
Benchmark is based in Angleton, Texas.
CTS is in the midst of a company-wide strategic evaluation, The AP reported.

More jobs lost
in Muncie
The scope of layoffs at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, has grown.
Originally, 100 people were expected to be laid off as part of statewide cutbacks. That number has now grown to 120.

Earnings rise
for Walgreen
Walgreen’s fiscal fourth quarter earnings rose 86 percent, The Wall Street Journal reported this week.
For the quarter which ended Aug. 31, the company reported a profit of $657 million or 69 cents per share. That’s up from $353 million or 39 cents a share one year earlier. Revenue was up 5.1 percent to $17.94 billion.

Grant boosts
Ivy Tech program
Ivy Tech Community College has received a $2.2 million grant from the Lumina Foundation to expand its Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP) to Ivy Tech campuses across the state.
The program, which was launched in 2010, has been limited to the Fort Wayne, Lafayette, Indianapolis and South Bend campuses.
ASAP provides at-risk high school students an opportunity to earn an associate’s degree in just 12 months rather than the traditional two-year timeframe. Students are chosen for the program while still in high school.
Ivy Tech is one of the educational partners of John Jay Center for Learning.

Capital campaign launched
State of the Heart Hospice is conducting a capital campaign to raise funds for a new five-bed care center recently opened at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville, Ohio. So far more than $100,000 in donations from corporations and individuals have been received.
The care center, which opened in July, is the only one of its kind in the area.

Elected chairman
David W. Heeter, chief executive officer of MutualBank, Muncie, has been elected the 2014 chairman of the board of directors of the Indiana Bankers Association. He joined MutualBank in 1978 and is vice president of the MutualBank Charitable Foundation.

Armstrong
resigns from board
Stu Armstrong, senior vice president of Citizens State Bank (formerly Pacesetter Bank), has stepped down from the board of the Alliance for Strategic Growth after 10 years of service to the non-profit workforce development organization.
While on the board, Armstrong had chaired the budget and administration committee and served as a member of the executive committee.

Military friendly schools named
Victory Media has named Ivy Tech Community College to the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools.
The list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools doing the most to serve U.S. military members, veterans, and their families.[[In-content Ad]]
