DreamHaven is launching an ambitious series of free seminars in October aimed at encouraging, mentoring, and nurturing local entrepreneurs.
The Tuesday night seminars begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. and will take place at Harmony Café, 121 N. Meridian St., Portland.
The free series kicks off on Oct. 1 and will feature Indiana Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann. Tim and Dave Poole of Aerocat will be speaking on “Fun Can Be Profitable: Making a living doing what you love.”
On Oct. 8, David Fennig of Harmony Café, Thaddeus Rex of Inspire Like a Rock Star, and Dave Bricker of Portland True Value will present a seminar entitled “Finding Your First Steps Inch by Inch Is a Cinch.”
On Oct. 15, Mark Goldman of Pennville Custom Cabinets, Scott Daniels of Portland’s Holiday Inn Express, Chris Fennig of MyFarms, and Portland chiropractor Dr. Oakland Gaerke will speak on “Breaking Down Risk.”
The Oct. 22 session will focus on “Stories of Fame and Failure” and will feature Nick Ardizzone of Suits by Amy, J.P. Day of TLS by Design, and Bonnie Maitlen, senior vice president for Lee Hecht Harrison.
The final session on Oct. 29 is entitled “Bring Your Dream to Life” and will feature David Bolling of Wishoo Interactive Technologies, Peggy Cenova of the Indiana Small Business Development Center, and Andrew Fennig of Dream Haven.

OSHA class offered
at John Jay Center
Ivy Tech Corporate College is offering a 10-hour OSHA general industry class on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 7 and 8, at John Jay Center for Learning in Portland.
Classes from from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
The cost is $255.

Among the topics covered with be the Occupational Safety and Health Act, inspections, citations, penalties, record-keeping requirements, fire safety, electrical safety, and hazard communication.

Plant expands
Petoskey Plastics of Hartford City conducted tours of its new $9.7 million expansion of its recycling and manufacturing facility on Friday.
The plant recycles more than 30 million pounds of post-consumer plastic annually, using it to manufacture blown film and bag products. The expansion resulted in the creation of 80 new jobs.

Selling tungsten
Allegheny Technologies Inc., parent company of Portland Forge, is selling its tungsten business to Kennametal Inc. of Pittsburgh for $605 million.
The Wall Street Journal reported this week the sale will allow ATI to focus on more high performance metals and flat-rolled item.
“ATI said its growth opportunities would be focused on other businesses, especially in aerospace and oil and gas, with products such as jet engine parts made of forged nickel and titanium,” The Journal reported.

Blackford health fair
IU Health Blackford Hospital is having a community health fair on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 8 a.m. to noon at Northside Elementary School, 400 E. McDonald St., Hartford City.
