Dunn leads Ponderosa (06/19/03)

Junior League

With Alex Dunn powering the offense, Ponderosa snuck by Doane Pet Care in Portland Junior League Rookie League action Wednesday 10-9.

In other Rookie League games Kessler’s Sporting Goods defeated Cook’s Nursery 24-10, and Jay County Monuments topped Coke 19-4.

Sibery Electric got by Berne 13-1 in their Major League softball game, and Optimist International defeated Wellman Farms 20-4 in a Minor League softball game.

Dunn set the pace in the Ponderosa victory with four hits.

Katie Aker and Kaleb Baldwin each had three hits for Doane.

Kessler’s 24, Cook’s 10

Taylor Fugiett knocked four hits in the Kessler’s victory.

Brandon Poore had three hits for Cook’s.

Monuments 19, Coke 4

Brock McFarland notched four hits for Monuments.

Mitchel Rigby and Brody Speed each had a pair of hits for Coke.

Sibery 13, Berne 1

Abby Loy racked up four hits and scored three times for Sibery.

Kim Norris had two hits and two runs, and Amelia Craig also scored twice.

Amber Fryback singled and scored the only run for Berne.

Optimist 20, Wellman 4

Brittany Mann had four hits, including a couple of triples, and scored four times in the Optimist win. Kristy Morningstar had three hits and scored twice, and Shelby Gierhart and Selena McKibben each contributed two hits and two runs.

Brianne Wellman and Carrie Minnich each had two hits and two runs for Wellman.

Coaches needed

The search for new coaches has begun at Fort Recovery and South Adams.

Fort Recovery is in need of a new girls basketball coach. The deadline for applications is Friday.

South Adams is looking for a boys soccer coach. The School Board will look to appoint a coach at its meeting July 15.

Basketball tourney

There will be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament held at the Pennville American Legion Lion’s Club Fair July 11-12.

The tournament will use a double-elimination format in seven different age groups. The cost to enter is $25.
