The East Jay baseball team finished its regular season in resounding fashion.

After falling behind 3-0 to Muncie Central in the top of the first inning, East Jay scored 18 unanswered runs for the five-inning 18-3 victory. The win gave the team an 18-4 record to end the season.

Muncie Central started quickly, opening with two singles, a double, a walk and another single against starter Casey Waters. Three of those runners came in to score, but the lead for the visitors was shortlived.

East Jay responded with an even more brutal game-starting streak beginning with Justin Mann’s triple. Joshua Ludy and Waters followed with walks, and Kaleb Carpenter knocked a single.

Aaron Wilhelm blasted the second triple of the frame to clear the bases. Then Matt Snyder and Kyle Wellman wrapped singles around an Aaron Bogenschutz walk.

Finally Central managed to keep a batter from reaching base, but by the time the inning was over East Jay had a 6-3 lead and never faltered again. Waters owned the Muncie Central batters the rest of the way and got the complete-game win.

Waters also notched three hits, including a triple, and scored three times. Mann and Carpenter had matching stats of two singles, a triple and three runs.

Wilhelm had two doubles, a triple and two runs, and Josh Ludy singled and scored three times.

East Jay now heads to tournament play, where it awaits the winner of a first-round contest between Yorktown and Cowan. East Jay will visit the winner of that game Wednesday at 5 p.m.

There was also a game for East Jay Monday, a 9-6 loss against Union City.

East Jay scored two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to rally from a four-run deficit to a 5-5 tie. However, Union City scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to take the win.

Waters and Ludy each had two singles, a double and a run in the defeat. Bogenschutz and Wellman also had matching stats of two singles and one run apiece.

Carpenter took the loss in relief of Ludy.

However, Loy struck out Roxie Coy to end the contest, preserving the one-run win for her team.
