Errors hurt Indians vs. Marion Local (05/08/03)

Local Roundup

Unearned runs stopped the Fort Recovery baseball team again Wednesday.

The Indians, who also lost their first round sectional game to New Knoxville because of a fielding blunder, allowed six unearned runs in an 8-6 loss to Marion Local. The loss dropped them to 10-12 on the season, and 2-3 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

The Tribe broke a 3-3 tie by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning. However, Marion Local came right back with four runs in the bottom of the frame, and added one in the sixth for the final margin.

This time C.J. Tobe was the victim of the errors, allowing eight runs — two earned — on eight hits. He walked one and struck out four in six innings.

Greg Snyder had three hits and two runs for the Indians. Nathan Sudhoff added a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Dusty Guggenbiller hit a solo home run, and Greg Heitkamp notched a triple, a run and an RBI.

The Indians will play a double-header at Botkins Saturday at 11 a.m.
