Fort crushes Wildcats (04/23/03)

The Fort Recovery softball team put a pounding on Delphos Jefferson Tuesday for a 17-2 victory.

Julie Faller had a huge offensive game for the Indians (7-3), going 3-for-4. She drove in six runs, scored five and added a stolen base.

Krystal Rammel wasn’t far behind, notching a pair of hits, three runs and three RBIs. Ciera Rammel, Lisa Grisez, Joscie Kaup, Sarah Schmitz and Allison Perkeybile each had two hits.

Perkeybile drove in three runs, and Ciera Rammel had a pair of RBIs. Kaup and Grisez each scored twice.

Alyssa Tobe picked up the victory for the Tribe, allowing two runs — one earned — in six innings. She gave up three hits while striking out four and walking six.

Fort Recovery’s next game is at home Thursday against Marion Local at 5 p.m.

Fort loses to ‘Skins

Fort Recovery’s baseball team did a lot of scoring in the final three innings, but St. Henry was all over home plate throughout the game as it beat the Indians 17-11 Tuesday.

The Redskins scored in every inning, building an 8-1 lead on they way to dropping Fort Recovery’s record to 7-8 (1-1 Midwest Athletic Conference).

C.J. Tobe took the loss, allowing 14 runs on 17 hits in six innings. He struck out two and walked four.

Greg Snyder paced the offense, going 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs. Mark Knapke was 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs.

The Indians play at Fort Loramie Thursday at 5 p.m.

Tribe runners trip

Fort Recovery’s track teams didn’t have much luck Tuesday against St. Henry and New Knoxville, winning just five field events overall.

The boys team placed second with 49 points while St. Henry was first with 86 and New Knoxville was third with 26. The Indian girls were third with 24 points behind the first-place Redskins (83) and the second-place Rangers (56).

Tom Roessner led a one-two-three finish for the boys team in the long jump at a distance of 18 feet, one-half inch. Christian Guenter was second and John Vagedes placed third, each with leaps of 16 feet, two inches.

Tyler Niekamp was first in the high jump at six feet, two inches, Joe Walter took the pole vault at 10 feet, and Dave Willmann won the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, two inches.

Kristi Westgerdes had the only win for the girls team, placing first in the long jump at 13 feet, six inches.

Fort Recovery will run at the Ansonia Tiger Relays Friday at 4:30 p.m.

FR JV doubled up

The Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team slipped to 6-6 on the season with a 14-7 defeat at the hands of Parkway Tuesday. The Indians scored five times in the second inning to take a brief lead, but couldn’t do much else in the defeat.

Kelsie Will paced the offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and one stolen base. Jill Wehrkamp scored once, and Megan Wenning and Kim Link each contributed one RBI.

Kristen Schwieterman took the loss for Fort Recovery.

No O for Indians

The Indians managed just two runs of their own and coughed up three unearned runs to St. Henry as the Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team lost to the Redskins Tuesday 7-2.

Brad Fortkamp was saddled with the loss, allowing six runs — three earned — in five innings. Matt Hein gave up one run in one inning of work.

Greg Reinhard tripled and drove in a run for the Indians (3-7). Tyler Wuebker doubled and scored a run, and Steve Trobridge also scored once.

Fort needs coaches

Fort Recovery High School is looking for a varsity boys basketball coach.

Head coaching positions with the Indians are also open for boys golf and cross country. They are also in search of an assistant volleyball coach.
