Fort Recovery splits Saturday pair

FRHS Roundup

It was an up and down day for the Fort Recovery softball team Saturday. It opened with a crushing 19-4 victory over Lincolnview, but couldn’t get any offense against Crestview in a 9-0 defeat.

The Indians (5-4) got started quickly against Lincolnview, scoring six times in the first inning for a 6-2 lead. They were up 9-2 after two innings and scored eight more in the third to put the game well out of reach.

It was a dominating effort from top to bottom for Fort Recovery with Krystal Rammel and Joscie Kaup taking the lead.

Rammel went 4-for-5 with a home run and a double. She scored three times and had five RBIs.

Kaup was also 4-for-5 and had a home run. She scored three times and drove in three runs.

Lisa Grisez, Julie Faller, Sarah Schmitz, Tanya Thobe, Allison Perkeybile and Renee Evers also had two hits apiece. Perkeybile added four RBIs.

Schmitz took the victory, giving up four runs — three earned — on seven hits in the five-inning game. She struck out seven and walked two.

Alyssa Tobe pitched her first varsity game against Crestview and was handed the defeat.

She gave up nine runs — seven earned — on four hits in six innings.

Kaup had the only two hits for the Indians in the loss to the Knights.

Fort Recovery plays at St. Henry today at 5 p.m.

Fort gets revenge

The Indians didn’t like how the first game ended, and Tri County North paid the price in the second. Fort Recovery’s baseball team lost the opener 4-3 in eight innings, but bounced right back to pound the Panthers in the second game 13-3.

It was just a 3-2 lead for the Indians in the second game after three innings, but they came up big in the fourth inning. They scored four times in the fourth and put the game out of reach with six runs in the sixth.

Greg Heitkamp powered the offense with three hits, including a home run and a double. He drove in four runs and scored twice.

Greg Snyder was right with him, going 3-for-4 with a triple. He had two runs and four RBIs.

Greg Faller and Dusty Tobe also had a pair of hits. Dusty Guggenbiller scored three times, Dusty Tobe scored twice and C.J. Tobe drove in two runs.

Nick Wehrkamp earned the game-two win, giving up three runs — one earned — in six innings. He struck out four and walked four while allowing six hits.

The first game was tied at three through seven innings, but Tri County North tagged Snyder with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth.

Snyder went the distance, allowing four runs — two earned — on eight hits. He walked three and struck out eight.

Heitkamp had a double for the lone extra-base hit, and Guggenbiller drove in two runs. The Indians’ next game is today at Bath at 5 p.m.

Indians crush Knights

Tri County North had to be happy that there’s a mercy rule.

The Knights needed it, because the Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team was all over them, scoring 53 runs in a double-header sweep Saturday. The Indians won the first game 23-5 in five innings and took the second 30-10 in four.

Kelsie Will led the offensive barrage in the first game, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two stolen bases. Megan Wenning had three hits, including a triple, and three runs.

Kim Link also tripled, driving in a pair of runs and scoring twice.

Wenning added another triple in the second game, scoring four runs and driving in four. Jill Wehrkamp doubled, scored three times and added five RBIs.

Wenning was the beneficiary of the big offensive output in the first game, picking up her first win as she allowed five earned runs in five innings. Wehrkamp got the game-two win, striking out one in three innings.

Tribe JV loses

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team stayed with Tri County North throughout the game, but couldn’t pull off a win as it fell 5-4.

The Knights scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth for a 5-3 lead. Fort Recovery got a run back in the sixth, but couldn’t get any more in the defeat.

Greg Reinhard and Ryan Steinbrunner each had a pair of hits for the Indians. Reinhard doubled, scored once and stole a base.

Matt Hein had one hit, two runs and three stolen bases. Tyler Wuebker took the loss in four innings of work.[[In-content Ad]]
