Grisez, Kaup key win for Indians


SIDNEY, Ohio — Lisa Grisez and Joscie Kaup each had three hits as Fort Recovery out-slugged Fairlawn 14-9 here Thursday to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Grisez and Kaup were the top two bats in a Fort line-up that pounded out a total of 15 hits.

Starting pitcher Sarah Schmitz went three innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out four.

Grisez and Krystal Rammel each drove in three runs for the Indians, who had two RBI each from four different players.

Kaup had two triples and a double, while Grisez had a triple and single.

One of Rammel’s two hits in Thursday’s game was a home run.

Ciera Rammel and Julie Faller also had two hits each for Fort Recovery, which led 4-1 heading into the top of the fourth inning. The Indians scored 10 runs in its final four trips to the plate.

Fairlawn made things interesting with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull within two, 11-9, but the Indians answered with three more runs in the top of the seventh.

Tanya Thobe, Allison Perkybile and Renee Evers had one hit each for FRHS.

Fort Recovery will play at Crestview Saturday.

Indians fall 6-4

ST. MARY’S, Ohio — Five early runs held up as St. Mary’s held off Fort Recovery 6-4 in varsity baseball Thursday.

The Indians (6-5) trailed 5-0 after two innings before rallying in the late innings.

Fort Recovery scored single runs in the top of the fourth and sixth innings to pull within three, then added two more in the seventh as a rally fell short.

Mark Knapke, Greg Snyder and C.J. Tobe each had two hits for Fort Recovery. Nate Sudhoff drove home two runs, while Dusty Guggenbiller and Tobe each had an RBI. Both Snyder’s hits were doubles.

Tobe took the loss on the mound, giving up nine hits and allowing all six runs (five earned). Tobe struck out five and walked one.

Greg Hietkamp also doubled and Nate Sufhoff singled for the Indians, who play a doubleheader Saturday at Tri-County North beginning at 11 a.m.

JV beaten

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team dropped a 17-1 decision against St. Marys Thursday.

The Indians (2-5) had three hits — singles from Dusty Tobe, Tyler Wuebker and Ben Osterhold.
