Hemmelgarn named director

Crown Pointe Assisted Living in Portland recently named Tess Hemmelgarn, RN, as its new executive director. Hemmelgarn attended Ivy Tech Community College. Crown Pointe will have an open house for the community to tour the facility and meet Hemmelgarn from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 17.
Niekamp
receives award
Mary Niekamp, of Fort Recovery, was awarded the “President’s Sales Club Award of Achievement” for $1 million in sales or commercial leases.
Niekamp is a realtor for Hall Realty, 103 S. Main St., Celina, Ohio.
New AT&T site
AT&T has opened a new mobile internet cell site in Jay County to enhance coverage for area residents, businesses and travelers.
The new site is located at the intersection of Ind. 18 and Ind. 1 east of Montpelier and north of Pennville.
Cindy Gardner receives promotion
Cindy Gardner was promoted to senior branch office administrator at Edward Jones in Portland.
She has been with Edward Jones for 14 years.
Mike Engels, the local Edward Jones financial officer, said Gardner is deserving of the position.
“Cindy has demonstrated an outstanding ability to juggle the many complex tasks and responsibilities associated with helping run this office. I’m very pleased that her exceptional ability and dedication to the firm have been recognized and rewarded,” he said.
Winchester approves TIF district
The Winchester Redevelopment Commission approved a resolution to declare the downtown historic district as economic development area, establishing a downtown tax increment financing district.
IU names medical school leader
Indiana University named Derron Bishop interim director of the Indiana University School of Medicine, Muncie campus and interim associate dean at Indiana University of Medicine.
Bishop joined the faculty in 2012 as adjunct associate professor of cellular and integrative physiology.
Nestle USA announces expansion
Nestle USA will add its 7th production line to its Anderson plant. The $72 million expansion will increase the production capacity for Boost Complete Nutritional Drink and Carnation Breakfast Essentials. The plant currently employs more than 700 people.
Ball State University awarded certificate
Ball State University was recognized for international education and in recruiting students from 68 countries, doubling its international student population during the past five years. It was awarded the U.S. Department of Commerce Export Achievement certificate.
Mercer Health expands weight management center
The Mercer Health Management Center has expanded its weight management services beyond the LAP-BAND surgical program and now offers a Medifast weight loss program, which provides a structured meal plan that incorporates specifically formulated meal replacement supplements along with regular grocery items to achieve a low calorie, low carbohydrate diet. An introduction class will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, October 21 at the Mercer Health Weight Management Center.

A $200,000 grant was awarded to Ivy Tech Community College Northeast through the Ivy Tech Foundation from the English, Bonter, Mitchell Foundation and Mike Eikenberry, former regional president of PNC Bank.
The grant will allow the college to expand its hospitality suite, which is used by hospitality administration students. The hospitality administration program is the second largest program in the Ivy Tech Community College system and is commonly seen as one of Indiana’s elite hospitality programs.
The expansion will allow the program to grow. In 2011, the program served 722 majors and provided more than 100 courses.[[In-content Ad]]
