Indian spikers open vs. Rangers (10/18/04)

Fort volleyball

The Indians line up against the team with the worst record. But, in the sectional which could very well determine the Division IV state champion, it doesn’t really matter.

The Fort Recovery volleyball team will open sectional play Saturday at New Bremen against the New Knoxville Rangers (11-10) at 1 p.m. Every team in the sectional has a winning record, and at least four of the six teams should finish in the top 20 in this week’s state poll.

The Indians (12-9) lost to New Knoxville 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17 during the regular season. Both teams sit at 4-4 in the conference, tied for fifth place behind the other four teams in the tournament field.

In the other first-round match Saturday, the No. 3 Marion Local Flyers (16-4, 6-2 MAC) will take on the New Bremen Cardinals (13-7, 5-3 MAC) following the conclusion of the opener between the Indians and the Rangers. New Bremen defeated Marion Local in their regular-season match Tuesday.

Semifinal matches will follow with the Division IV No. 1 St. Henry Redskins (19-3, 8-0 MAC) taking on the New Knoxville/Fort Recovery winner and the Minster Wildcats (15-5, 6-2 MAC) battling the Marion Local/New Bremen winner.

The remaining two teams from Saturday’s action will play Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Against sectional teams Fort Recovery defeated Marion Local, but lost to the other four schools.
