Indians battle, take first MAC loss at Minster (09/10/04)

MINSTER, Ohio — The Tribe came close a couple of times, but couldn’t avoid a Thursday sweep.
The Fort Recovery volleyball team played with Minster in the first and third games, but couldn’t pull out either as it fell to a 25-22, 25-14, 25-21 loss to the Wildcats.
Sophomore middle hitter Tiff Gaerke paced the Indians (4-2, 1-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) again, finishing with team highs of 11 kills and 10 blocks. Fellow sophomore Holly Stein was next with six kills to go along with a team-best 11 points, including four aces, three blocks and three digs.
Jennalee Post had six points and 24 assists, Krystal Rammel finished with six blocks and four digs and Rachel Brackman came up with 16 digs.
Fort Recovery (2-1, 1-1 MAC) also dropped the junior varsity match to Minster by a 25-17, 25-15 count.
Lauren Wenning totaled eight points, four kills and one block in the defeat. Abby Niekamp had five points, three of which came on aces, and 12 assists, and Rachel Stahl finished with five kills.
The Indians will visit Franklin Monroe Monday at 5:30 p.m.
The Fort Recovery freshman and junior high teams played the St. Henry Redskins Thursday, coming away with two victories and one defeat.
The freshmen topped St. Henry 21-25, 25-19, 18-16, while the seventh graders won 25-22, 25-17. The Tribe eighth graders lost 25-21, 22-25, 15-4.
Sarah Braun posted team highs in kills, points and blocks for the freshman team (3-1) with 15, eight and two respectively. Jill Pottkotter had eight kills and one block, and Ashley Grube finished with five kills and six points.
Beth May notched 18 digs, and LeAnne Tobin followed with 11. Heather Schmackers had seven assists, and Angie Wenning added four.
The seventh graders (3-1) got six points and two kills from Emily May. Lorraine Shier had seven points, and Hillary Staugler scored six.
Sylvia Schwieterman notched two kills, and Josie Guggenbiller had a pair of digs.
Joanna Snyder had 13 points, five digs and one block as the eighth grade team slipped to 2-2. Kinsey Wenning posted six kills, three digs and two blocks.
Kelsey Wuebker had five assists, four kills and four points, and Chelsea Klenke finished with seven assists.
SA spikers fall again
BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team lost for the eighth straight time Thursday, falling in three games to the Bellmont Squaws, 25-20, 25-19, 25-20.
The Starfires have not won since the second match of the year, a 25-18, 25-21, 10-25, 26-24 on Aug. 17. They are now 1-9 overall and 1-2 in the Allen County Athletic Conference.
Renee Neuenschwander had 11 kills, 10 digs and two aces in the defeat. Robyn Habegger finished with seven kills and 12 digs.
Alyssa Miller had 27 assists, and Tamara Moser added two aces.
South Adams also lost in junior varsity and C-team action, falling 25-15, 25-14 and 20-25, 25-21, 25-16 respectively.
It will play at Parkway Monday at 5 p.m.

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s junior high football teams went scoreless in a pair of losses to the Minster Wildcats Thursday.
