FORT RECOVERY — Welcome to the Midwest Athletic Conference. No match here is easy.

The fact was proven again Thursday as Fort Recovery’s volleyball team had to fight through five difficult sets to pull off a 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 18-16 victory over the Parkway Panthers. Parkway finished ninth in the 10-team MAC last season.

The Indians improved to 2-0 with the win, getting 24 kills and six blocks from sophomore middle hitter Tiff Gaerke. Senior Krystal Rammel racked up 16 kills and five blocks.

Jennalee Post led the Tribe behind the service line with 15 points. She also put up 49 assists.

Megan Wenning had 7 points and 13 kills, and Holly Stein also scored seven points. Libero Rachel Brackman came up with 38 digs.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also improved to 2-0 with a 25-23, 25-22 victory over Parkway.

Alicia Schwieterman had six points, five blocks and two kills to lead the way. Lauren Wenning posted a team-high four kills to go along with two digs.

Abby Niekamp finished with eight assists, and Jodi Tobe had seven points.

The Indians will play in the St. Marys Invitational Saturday at 10 a.m.

Starfire spikers fall

BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team slipped to 1-8 with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-11 loss to the Oak Hill Golden Eagles Thursday.

For the second straight match, junior setter Alyssa Miller led the team in kills with seven. She also had seven assists.

Renee Neuenschwander had three kills and five digs, and Tamara Moser finished with three aces and a pair of blocks. Robyn Habegger had seven digs and two aces, and Brooke Fox notched three blocks.

The Starfires also lost the junior varsity match to Oak Hill, 25-15, 25-14.

South Adams will have a week off before hosting Bellmont Thursday at 6 p.m.
