Indians fall to Lehman Catholic (09/13/04)

SIDNEY, Ohio — The Tribe opened at 4-1. Now it has spent a week away from the win column.

The Fort Recovery volleyball team lost its second straight match Saturday, taking a 25-17, 25-16, 28-26 loss to the Sidney Lehman Catholic Cavaliers.

Tiff Gaerke paced the Indians in the defeat, finishing with team highs of 15 kills and 10 blocks. Jennalee post had 17 assists, eight digs and six blocks, and Krystal Rammel finished with eight points, six blocks and five kills.

Holly Stein notched six blocks and five points, and Rachel Brackman had 11 digs.

Fort Recovery won the junior varsity match against Lehman Catholic by a 25-23, 18-25, 15-13 score.

Abby Niekamp led the Indians with five kills and six assists. She scored all of her three points on aces.

Lauren Wenning also had five kills to go along with six digs and two blocks. She scored seven points, and also notched three aces.

Lori Osterholt had a team-high 10 points, including three aces, Brittany Brackman had 12 digs and Rachel Stahl added eight digs.

Huelskamp places 8th

SPENCERVILLE, Ohio — Derrick Huelskamp scored the top finish for the Fort Recovery cross country teams Saturday, placing eighth at the Spencerville Invitational.

Huelskamp earned his top finish for the team with a time of 18-minutes, 14 seconds. Close behind him was Mitch Fullenkamp, who placed 12th in 18:29.

Lindsay Sudhoff was the leader of the high school girls team, placing 14th in 22:49.

Following Huelskamp and Fullenkamp in the boys race were: Austin Burkhardt (40th in 20:00), Stan Roessner (42nd in 20:06), Steve Gaerke (44th in 20:19), Jim Roessner (48th in 20:38) and Matt Heinrichs (57th in 25:02). Tyler Huelskamp ran at the junior varsity level, placing 77th in 25:48.

Behind Sudhoff in the girls race were: Marisa Minor (42nd in 25:02), Sam Bihn (43rd in 25:07) and Leanne Pottkotter (47th in 25:36).

Tina Roessner led the junior high girls team as she finished in 13:57 to take 11th place. Andrea Faller placed 87th in 17:14.

The Indians will run at Fort Loramie Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Officiating class

Parkway High School will host a basketball officiating class for OHSAA licensing beginning Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.
