Indians' Gaerke named All-District (10/26/04)

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s sophomore middle hitter has another volleyball award to add to her Midwest Athletic Conference honor.

Tiff Gaerke was also named to the All-District team in volleyball. She and senior middle hitter Krystal Rammel were All-MAC first-team selections.

Gaerke was the premier front-line player in the MAC this year, leading the conference in kills and finishing second in blocks. She averaged 4.85 kills per game for a total of 393 on the season and 2.4 blocks per game for 194 overall.

Gaerke was also fourth on the team with 1.89 kills per game (153 total) and had 0.21 aces per game (14 total).

Rammel finished second to Gaerke on the Indians in both kills and blocks. She was fifth in the MAC in both categories, with 2.85 kills per game and 1.72 blocks per game for totals of 231 and 139 respectively.

She also averaged 1.77 digs per game (143 total) and 0.29 aces per game (20 total).

‘Skins top FR freshmen

ST. HENRY, Ohio — The Indians managed one touchdown, but it was too little too late as the Fort Recovery freshman football team fell to St. Henry 26-6 Monday.

Michael Trobridge got the lone score for the Tribe, running for a 25-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Miller, Vormohr lead Jay

KOKOMO — Emilee Miller and Annie Vormohr each picked up a pair of individual wins as the Jay County Winter Swim Team competed at the Kokomo Fall Invitational this weekend.

Miller had three personal-best times as she won a pair of races in the 9-10-year-old girls division. She was first in the 50-yard butterfly and the 100-yard breaststroke.

Annie Vormohr had her best results in the longer distances in the 8-and-younger girls division. She won the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard freestyle.

Vormohr, who finished with nine personal-best times and was third overall in her age group, also joined Sophie Bader, Alex Bader and Rylee Clemmons in winning the 8-and-younger girls 100-yard freestyle relay.

Clemmons took second in the 8-and-younger girls 25-yard breaststroke, and Wiley Young took second in the 9-10-year-old boys 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke. Cori Vormohr took second in the 13-and-older 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke.

Sophie Bader and Alysha Miller also had top-three finishes for Jay County.

Fort tickets

Tickets for Fort Recovery’s football game Friday at St. Henry will go on sale Thursday.

They will be available in the high school office Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. They will also be sold in the middle school office Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Advance tickets are $4 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the gate will be $5.

EJ wresting

Practice for the East Jay wrestling team will begin after school on Monday, Nov. 1. Students must have a physical form on file with the school office before they may begin practice.

Football combine

Hoosier Gridiron will hold a football combine in December at Anderson University for high school players interested in continuing their careers at the collegiate level.
