Jay-Randolph goes 1-4 on weekend (07/22/03)

Local Roundup

The Jay-Randolph Bulldogs American Legion baseball team started the weekend well, but was back in a slump by the time Sunday rolled around.

Jay-Randolph defeated Greenfield for just its third win of the year Friday, 6-4. However, it then lost both ends of a Saturday double-header to Crown Point, 9-0 and 12-5, and both halves of a Sunday double-header to Plymouth, 16-5 and 13-2.

The Bulldogs were trailing 4-3 after seven innings Friday, but scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to pull ahead.

Jay County’s Mitch Waters started the rally with a walk, and Noah Whitehead and Andy Swanagan followed with singles. A double by James Brannan completed the effort as Jay-Randolph took the win.

Waters started the game and allowed three runs in six innings before Kyle Hunt took over and got the win. Waters finished 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Jay County’s Chris Myers was hitless on the weekend before driving in a pair of runs with one hit in the finale against Plymouth.
