DECATUR - Area schools turned in a one-two punch in the girls race at the Bellmont Invitational.
Jay County took the top slot at the meet with 36 points, and South Adams (64) edged Leo (65) for the runner-up slot at the seven-team meet. The boys race was stopped because of lightning.
The Patriots placed four girls among the top 10 runners, including runner-up Amanda Johnson. The senior led the team as she trailed only South Adams' Allison Beitler and was followed by freshman Alysha Miller in fourth, junior Kylie Wellman in seventh and freshman Leah Wellman in 10th.
Cassie Laux rounded out the team total in 18th place. Also running for Jay County were Brittany Burris (20th), Katie Butcher (24th) and Logan Laux (38th).
Shannon Muselman (sixth), Taylor Turner (19th), Anne Lehman (21st) and Rachel Sprunger (23rd) followed Beitler for the Starfires.
The boys race was halted, but not before most of the runners had finished, including two Starfires in the top four.
South Adams' Nathan Rupp finished in second place, and Aaron Lehman was two spots behind him in fourth. Completing the team score for the Starfires were Brian Lehman (21st), Sam Heckard (22nd) and Andrew Smith (28th).
