HAGERSTOWN - Trisha Champ got off to a hot start and stayed strong. Jennifer Hunt and Rachel Osterholt each posted career-best scores.
On an August day when the weather finally wasn't so scorching Friday, the JCHS girls golf team torched the course to the tune of a season-best 400 and a second-place finish at the inaugural Hagerstown Invitational.
Champ finished as the runner-up at Hartley Hills Golf Club with an 81, one stroke behind only Alesia Melton of Hagerstown. The host Tigers ran away with the event with a 346.
The first four holes proved to be a breeze for Champ as she opened with a birdie on the 403-yard, par-5 first hole and followed with three consecutive pars. She added another par on the seventh hole, and birdied the 296-yard, par-4 ninth hole for a 2-over-par 39 on the front side.
The senior opened the back nine with a third birdie on another par-5, and she finished her round with back-to-back pars for her total.
Hunt matched Champ's birdie on the 10th hole after posting a pair of pars on the front nine. She added three of her four bogies on the back nine for a career-best 103.
Osterholt wasn't far behind. She went without a par on the day, but played a fairly consistent round and recorded five bogies for a 105.
Ivy Simons had all three of her bogies on the front nine as she rounded out the team score with a 111. Cara Garringer tallied one par in her round of 125.[[In-content Ad]]
