YORKTOWN - The 2007-08 season came to a close Friday.

Jay County High School junior Adam Gray finished his campaign with an 84 at the regional tournament hosted by Muncie Central at The Players Club. He was eight strokes behind the four players who tied for the final state-qualifying position.

The top three teams and top three individuals - including ties - advanced to the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals.

Hamilton Southeastern won the tournament by a stroke over Noblesville, 317-318. Yorktown and Carmel each shot 322, with Yorktown taking the third position based on the fifth-player tiebreaker.

Chase Wright of Delta was the medalist with a 73. Other individual state qualifiers were Alex Stinson (75) of Liberty Christian and McCormick Clouser of Norwell, Brett Barnes of Marion, Brodie Williams of Lapel and Connor O'Neal of Carmel, all of whom shot 76.

Gray parred the 380-yard, par-4 opening hole, but took his biggest score on the second with a 2-over-par seven. He parred the third hole before falling to 5-over-par through the first six.

The junior had four pars on each nine as he finished at 12-over-par.

Gray shot a 3-over-par 75 at Monday's sectional meet at Hickory Hills Golf Club (Farmland) to qualify for the regional tournament. He led Jay County to a 10-3-1 record this season as the team reached double digit wins for first time in three years.[[In-content Ad]]
