John Jay hosting seminar

Jay County Chamber of Commerce and John Jay Center for Learning are hosting a seminar May 14 for business owners.
The seminar, titled Is Your Business Running You?, runs from 8 to 10 a.m.
Tom Steiner of the East Central Indiana Small Business Development Center will be the presenter.
Participants will learn what can be done to regain control of their businesses, how to transition their current business models to one based on systems and will discover work is what makes the rest of life possible.

Family dollar to close 370 stores
Family Dollar, which has a store in Portland, plans to cut jobs and close about 370 of its under-performing stores.
Specific store closings have not yet been announced.
The chain said the store closings and job cuts should reduce annual operating expenses by $40 to $45 million, as the company tries to reverse decreased sales and earnings.
Geneva hosts awards program
Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Geneva Proud held their annual awards ceremony Thursday in Geneva Town Hall.
The program honored individuals, businesses and industries deemed to have contributed to the growth and success of the community in the previous 12 months.
The 2013 Business of the Year is Adams County Financial Resources, owned by Lee Flueckiger.
The 2013 Industry of the Year is Geneva Manufacturing Corporation, owned by Terrell and Tammy Vieth.
And Citizen of the Year is Bill Hubbard, a long-time educator who taught at Adams Central for 32 years.
Jutte joins Celina insurance group
John Jutte, a Fort Recovery resident, has joined Celina Insurance Group as a network administrator.
A graduate from DeVry University in 2008, Jutte will oversee the architecture, development and maintenance of the company’s network infrastructure.
Ivy Tech extends deadline for program
Ivy Tech Community College East Central Region is extending the deadline for applications for its one-year associates degree program, called Associate Accelerated Program.
The deadline was March 15 and was extended to June 1.
Its Muncie campus will offer an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and an Associates of Science in Education.
The Anderson campus will also offer an Associates of Arts in Liberal Arts.
Through ASAP, a student will complete his or her associate degree in one year rather than the standard two years, which should enable them to be placed at some institutions as a junior.
Local eye doctor attends conference
A local eye doctor recently attended a two-day conference in Cincinnati.
Steven DeGroff of Family Eye Care of Berne and Winchester attended the eye disease conference April 12 through 13, where he learned about new developments in eye diseases, including macular degeneration, neurology of the visual system and diseases related to diabetes and glaucoma and external diseases.
Allies with Parkview
Wabash County Hospital and Parkview Health revealed their intent Wednesday to pursue some sort of an affiliation.
The hospital’s board of trustees recently agreed to sign a letter of intent to explore the alliance, although the structure of the agreement is still under discussion, the Fort Wayne Business Journal reported.
“The letter of intent is the next step in the affiliation process. Once it is signed, we will begin negotiations with Parkview Health,” said Marilyn Custer-Mitchell, president and CEO of Wabash County Hospital, in a statement. “We are excited to be working further with Parkview Health and look forward to our ongoing discussions. They are a well-respected organization with strong leadership and quality physicians.”[[In-content Ad]]
