Kessler’s Sporting Goods just kept circling the bases Wednesday night in a 33-7 victory over Doane Pet Care in their Portland Junior League Rookie League game.

In other Rookie League action Barnett’s Auto Parts squeaked past Jay County Monuments 20-19, while Patriot Paints trounced Williams Auto Parts 17-1.

First National Bank defeated Local 1620 13-4 in the Pee Wee Reese League, and Portland Moose topped Portland Forge 15-5.

In softball games it was Portland Forge Credit Union over Optimist International 17-4, and St. Mary’s topping Sibery Electric 12-2.

Brandon Muhlenkamp and Cory Bellis led Kessler’s to its victory. They each had five hits.

Katie Aker had two hits, including a home run, for Doane.

Barnett’s 20, Monuments 19

Josh Priest and Brent Walker each had four hits for Barnett’s.

Three of Brock McFarland’s four hits for Monuments were home runs.

Paints 17, Williams 1

Mason Mumby and Darin Bogenschutz led Paints with three hits apiece.

Williams got a pair of hits from Conner Ray.

First National 13, 1620 4

Colton Lombardo had two hits, including a triple, and scored four times for First National. Austin Emerick went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, and Aaron Emerick singled and scored three times.

Isaac Poole had a pair of hits and scored once for Local 1620.

Moose 15, Forge 5

Moose trailed 5-1 after two innings, but scored seven runs in the third inning which included a two-run triple from Tyler Freyburgher. Freyburgher and Nate Wood scored three runs apiece in the win.

Trey Dunn singled, scored a run and had two RBIs for Forge, and Adam Garringer added a pair of hits.

Forge 17, Optimist 4

Vicki Taylor and Lacey Randolph each homered and scored three times to lead Forge. Pazia Speed had four hits, including two triples, and scored four times.

Brittany Mann went 2-for-2 with a home run and two runs for Optimist.

St. Mary’s 12, Sibery 2

Jordi Enderud had two doubles and a triple, and scored three times for St. Mary’s. Heather Ruffner, Amanda Rupert and Bailey Enderud each scored twice.

Lauren Edmundson and Ashley Bunch scored Sibery’s only runs.

Coaches needed

The search for new coaches has begun at Fort Recovery and South Adams.

Fort Recovery is in need of a new girls basketball coach after Lynn Hughes resigned Tuesday. It is beginning the search for a new coach immediately, with the deadline for applications set at Friday, June 20.

South Adams is looking for a boys soccer coach. The School Board will look to appoint a coach at its meeting July 15.

Jay-Randolph tryouts

Tryouts for the Jay-Randolph American Leagion baseball team will be June 16 at 5 p.m.

The tryouts will be held at Winchester High School and are open to any high school baseball player in Jay or Randolph county.

Baseball camp

Jay County High School baseball camps, run by the JCHS baseball coaching staff and players, will be held in June.

There are two sessions still open for registration, one for third and fourth graders and one for fifth through eighth graders. The cost for all three camps is $25, which includes a T-shirt.

The camps will be from June 22-25, with the third and fourth graders from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and the fifth through eighth graders from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The deadline to register is June 16.

Swimming lessons

The first of three sessions of swimming lessons will be held at the Portland Pool beginning Monday, June 16.

The classes are for all ages, and the cost is $10 per person. There will be four different half-hour long classes each day, beginning at 9 a.m.

There will not be make-up dates for weather-related cancellations.

Registration begins Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Those interested should visit the pool or call (260) 726-6653.

Soccer notes

The sign-up period for those interested in playing on the traveling soccer team this fall is under way.

The Jay County Soccer Club will have traveling teams for ages 10-and-under, 12-and-under and 14-and-under for both boys and girls.

The deadline to register is June 18.

There will also be a Jay County Soccer Club meeting Thursday, June 19 at the Jay Community Center from 6 to 7 p.m.

Weekend activities

Activities for Randolph Counties Weekend in the Park have been set for Saturday, June 14.

The 5K Run/Walk will start and finish at Winchester High School. Sign-in will start at 7:45 a.m., with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The entry fee is $10, and awards will be given to the top three male and female runners in each of five age divisions.

The tennis tournament will begin Saturday, June 14 and continue Saturday, June 15 if there are enough players. It will be held at Winchester’s Goodrich Park and Winchester High School beginning at 9 a.m.

The cost is $15, and there will be six divisions. Everyone will be guaranteed two matches.
