BERNE — The Starfires are halfway there.

South Adams’ girls swim team opened the 2003-04 season with six consecutive victories. The 2004-05 is now at the midway point of trying to match that streak after a 102-67 victory over the Marion Giants Tuesday.

Sophomore Haleigh Lehman led the Starfires to their 3-0 mark as she was the lone member of the team to win two individual events in addition to a pair of relays.

Lehman dominated the longest and shortest races, first winning the 50-yard freestyle in 28.49 seconds. She followed that effort with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle in 6-minutes, 15.32 seconds with teammate Shannon Muselman placing second.

She teamed with Whitney Liechty, Lacy Rhoades and Chelsea Yoder to take first in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:12.76. She also joined Ashley Gresla, Talitha Maven and Margaret Beymer in winning the 400-yard freestyle in 4:34.91.

South Adams completed a sweep of the relays, also winning the 200-freestyle relay. The team of Maven, Gresla, Yoder and Courtney Hewitt finished in 1:58.37.

Gresla and Yoder each grabbed their individual event victories by about two seconds. Gresla was first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:21.45, and Yoder won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:38.36.

The next meet for South Adams is at Adams Central Monday at 5:30 p.m.
