Louth single completes rally (06/18/03)

Kelsey Louth capped a streak of five straight hits in the fourth inning Monday with a game-winning RBI single for Graphic Printing as it defeated Coca-Cola 7-6 in Portland Junior League Rookie League action.

In Willie Mays League baseball games Vance Heating and Cooling topped Portland Optimist 16-12, and Ja-Mar T.V. and Appliance beat Inman U-Loc 17-1.

Winchester blanked Redkey Lions 10-0 in the Sandy Koufax League, and Portland Elks downed Graphic Printing 11-1.

Graphic trailed 6-4 in the Rookie League softball game heading into the fourth inning, but came roaring back.

Marisa Hale started the rally with a one-out single, and Abby Freyburgher followed with a triple. Graphic then scored runs on consecutive singles from Ashley Heniscey, Emily Cline and Louth to win the contest.

Freyburgher and Heniscey each had two hits and two runs in the victory.

Stephanie Hudson notched a pair of singles for Coca-Cola, and also scored two runs.

Vance 16, Optimist 12

Chase Addington and Eric Beougher each smacked three hits in the victory.

Drew Wood picked up four hits for Optimist.

Ja-Mar 17, Inman 1

Issac Bruggeman finished with three hits for Ja-Mar.

Inman got a double from Austin Mann.

Winchester 10, Lions 0

Winchester scored six times in the first inning, and Brock Morrison and Spencer Cook combined on a four-inning no-hitter for the victory.

Brock Ward had a pair of hits and scored twice. Justin Schwieterman doubled and scored twice, and Spencer Cook had a single and two runs.

Shay White and Trevor Arbuckle each drew first-inning walks for Lions.

Elks 11, Graphic 1

Derek Barnett and Nate Markle combined for 10 strikeouts as they shut down Graphic. Barnett struck out seven batters and allowed just one run for the win, and Markle struck out the side in one inning of relief.

Barnett also had a pair of hits for Elks, including a double, while scoring three times and adding an RBI. Cody Sutton, John Wilson and Ben Lyons each had two hits and two runs, and Lee Haggenjos had a single and two runs.

Lyons and Cody Scott each had two RBIs.

Justin Hall singled and scored the lone run for Graphic.

Koufax standings

Tuesday’s shutout win for Winchester combined with Graphic’s loss to give Winchester a two-game lead in the Sandy Koufax League standings. It leads the league with a 5-2 record.

Elks, Graphic and Lions are all tied at 3-4.

No help for Urban

Jeff Urban didn’t do much wrong, but didn’t get much assistance as he dropped to 3-5 Tuesday in the Fresno Grizzlies’ 6-1 loss to the Omaha Royals.

Urban, a former Portland Rocket, allowed just one earned run on seven hits in six innings. However, he was also saddled with a pair of unearned runs and got next to no offensive help.

Omaha blanked Fresno for the final eight frames after giving up one run in the first inning.

Tractor pulls

There will be a truck and tractor pull Saturday, June 21 at Limberlost pulling track in Geneva.

The weigh-in for tractors will be at 8 a.m., with pulling from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The weigh-in for trucks will begin at 5 p.m., with pulling to start at 6 p.m.
