CLARIFICATION

The name of a former Portland resident’s father was omitted from the ‘In Uniform’ section of Wednesday’s CR.

Pennville resident Nate McIntire is the father of Kenton M. McIntire, who graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. recently.

FIRE RUNS

The Portland Fire Department was called to two incidents on Saturday.

At 12:29 a.m. Saturday, firefighters were called to rural Portland home that had smoke in the basement.

Firefighters were called to a home, located at 4398 East 300 North, Bryant, for melting wires in a breaker box in the basement of the home, an official from the fire department said this morning.

Eleven firefighters responded with two trucks.

The home is owned by Max Thomas and occupied by Barbara Oxley.

At 1:23 p.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to a clothes dryer fire at Americare Living Center in Portland.

The small fire damaged the dyer where the fire started in the center, located at 200 N. Park St., Portland.

Eleven firefighters responded with two trucks.

THEFT REPORTED

Portland police received a report Saturday of a stolen stereo from a Portland women’s car.

Marcella Marcias, 209 Oak St., told police that her stereo was stolen from her 1994 Pontiac Grand Am sometime between Friday and Saturday. The car was locked at the time of the theft, and a door handle was damaged to gain entry into the car.

The value of the stereo was not provided by police.

CITY ACCIDENT

Vehicles driven by a Berne teenager and a Portland man collided Sunday at 3:26 p.m. near the intersection of Meridian and Votaw streets.

Rebecca A. Knuth, 16, 1122 East 700 South, Berne, and Daniel A. Johnson, 21, 107 Mangold Drive, Portland, were driving north on Meridian Street, about 100 feet south of Votaw Street, when Knuth changed lanes and collided with Johnson’s 1996 Pontiac Grand Am.

Damage to Johnson’s car and the Knuth’s 1978 Ford truck, registered to Amanda and Stuart Bailey, 4788 West Ind. 116, Geneva, was estimated at less than $750.

DEER ACCIDENT

A car driven by a Portland woman collided with a deer on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. in Jefferson Township.

Gail A. Craig, 46, 1237 N. U.S. 27, was driving south on Ind. 67, about 3,000 feet south f county road 400 South, when she collided with a deer that came onto the road.

Damage to Craig’s 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.[[In-content Ad]]
