New Knoxville tops the Indians (09/24/04)

NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — Each of the first three games was decided by three or fewer points Thursday, but Fort Recovery dropped two of them on the way to a 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16 loss to the New Knoxville Rangers.

The loss was the second in a row for the Tribe as they fell to 7-5. They are 2-2 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Sophomore middle hitter Tiff Gaerke led the Indians in every possible category, including her team-high 21 kills. She also had 15 points and 10 digs, and matched Krystal Rammel for a team-best 10 blocks.

Rammel also had 15 kills.

Jennalee Post had 31 assists to go along with eight points and eight digs. Rachel Brackman had eight digs, and Holly Stein scored seven points.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team topped New Knoxville in three games, 25-10, 17-25, 15-12.

Abby Niekamp racked up 20 points in the JV victory, seven of which we scored on aces. She also had 12 assists, four blocks, four digs and one kill.

Lauren Wenning topped the Indians with nine digs and six blocks. She added two kills and two points.

Alicia Schwieterman had six digs and five kills, Jodi Tobe finished with eight points and Lori Osterholt had four kills.

The Tribe will play at Lima Bath Monday at 6 p.m.

FR freshmen top Cards

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s freshman team lost a tight first game against the New Bremen Cardinals before rallying for a 24-26, 25-18, 15-12 victory Thursday.

Amy Schoenlein powered the Tribe with 13 points and three blocks. She also had four kills and 10 digs.

Heather Schmackers finished with 11 points and eight assists. Jill Pottkotter had nine kills to go along with two blocks.

Angie Wenning posted 19 digs, and LeAnne Tobin was right behind her with 18 digs.

Tribe wins two, EJ one

PORTLAND — East Jay took the eighth grade match, but Fort Recovery nabbed the other two.

The Chiefs outlasted the Indians in a three-game eighth grade battle, 25-18, 6-25, 25-22. The Indians won the seventh grade match 25-23, 25-22 and took the C-team/sixth grade match 25-18, 25-17.

Sarah Westgerdes had a big match for East Jay in eighth grade action with team highs of seven points, three kills and two blocks. She also had five digs.

Amy Alig also had three kills, and Kaelee Keller had five points. Brittany Mann posted eight digs, and Cori Vormohr finished with seven assists.

Fort Recovery (5-4) was led by Kelsey Wuebker and Kinsey Wenning. Wuebker had 17 points, seven assists and one dig, and Wenning went for nine kills, four points and two blocks.

Rachel Tobe and Kelly Sudhoff had seven points apiece, and Joanna Snyder notched seven digs.

In the seventh grade match the Indians (8-2) got eight points and three assists from Carly Staugler. Josie Guggenbiller had six points, and Emily May finished with three kills and two digs.

Nicole Pottkotter and Sylvia Schwieterman each had two kills, and Alyssa Brackman added two digs.

Lindsey Wellman scored 12 points in for East Jay. Liz Walker followed with six points, and Kelsey Wood added two digs.

In the C-team/sixth grade match Beth Link racked up 15 points for Fort Recovery. She also had a pair of kills.

Hillary Staugler was right behind Link with 14 points. Lindsay Fullenkamp and Sarah Knapke each had an assists, and Emily Bauer added two digs.

Laura Castillo scored eight points, including six aces, for East Jay. Cara Garringer added four aces as she scored six points.[[In-content Ad]]
