FORT WAYNE — There are things that can help a struggling squad. Going up against a state-ranked team isn’t one of them.

South Adams’ volleyball team dropped to 2-12 Monday with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-12 loss to the Class 3A Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Knights.

Renee Neuenschwander’s four kills were a team-high for the Starfires. She also matched a team-high with four digs and delivered two aces.

Robyn Habegger had four digs and three kills. Alyssa Miller put up 10 assists, and Tamara Moser had two blocks.

Bishop Luers defeated South Adams 25-9, 25-18 in junior varsity action, and 25-14, 25-12 in the freshman match.

The Starfires will complete a stretch of five straight road matches when they visit Jay County today at 6 p.m.

SA tops Chiefs CC

BERNE — The run of victories for the East Jay cross country team ended at South Adams Monday. The boys team fell to the Starfires 25-30, and the girls team lost by a 17-38 score.

Kyle Simmons posted the top Chief finish, placing second in the boys race in 11-minutes, 21 seconds. The teams traded off spots through the top 10, with East Jay finishing on the even numbers.

Patrick Johnson was fourth in 12:05. He was followed by Isaac Poole in sixth in 12:13, Joey Franks in eighth in 12:37 and Chase Wellman in 10th in 12:43.

Kylie Wellman was the top runner for the girls team as she crossed the line fifth in 13:09. Leah Wellman was next in sixth place in 13:28.

Tiffany Helms finished eighth in 14:01, followed by Katie Butcher in ninth with a time of 14:22 and Lindsay Moser in 10th in 14:31.

Delta tops EJ spikers

MUNCIE — The host Eagles were too much for the East Jay volleyball teams as the Chiefs dropped all three matches Monday. The eighth grade team lost 21-4, 21-9, the seventh grade team dropped a 21-8, 21-14 decision and the sixth grade team lost 21-15, 21-8.

Brittany Mann posted a pair of aces and one kill for the eighth grade team. Kaelee Keller had two points, and Amy Alig added one kill.

Liz Walker paced the seventh graders with six assists. Pazia Speed added three points, including one ace.

The sixth grade team got a trio of aces from Tanner Martin. Brittany Manor finished with two points.

Fort tickets

Tickets for Fort Recovery’s football game Saturday at Lima Central Catholic will go on sale Thursday.

They will be available in the high school office Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. They will also be sold in the middle school office Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Directions to LCC are also available at both school offices.

Advance tickets are $4 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the gate will be $5.

Golf outing

The Jay County Special Olympics golf outing will be held at Portland Country Club on Saturday, Sept. 25.
