Norwell overpowers Jay County netters (08/17/07)

JCHS boys tennis

After eking out a win in its opener, the Jay County boys tennis team couldn't do the same Thursday.

In their first action on their home courts, the Patriots slipped to 1-1 with a 3-2 loss to the Norwell Knights.

Both of Jay County's wins came in quick fashion, with Josh Ludy tallying a shutout in his first set at No. 1 singles. Ludy finished off the second set and the match almost as quickly as he topped Blake Fiechter and Levi Gerber 6-0, 6-2.

Mark Alberson and Adam Horn gave up just three games at No. 2 doubles. Playing together for the first time this year, the duo rolled over Kyle Reinhard and Ross Matthews 6-1, 6-2.

Kyle Simmons came the closest to a third JCHS victory, but dropped two close games at No. 3 singles for a 7-5, 6-4 defeat. At No. 2 singles Phil Powell dropped 6-3, 6-4 to Jason Isch, and in No. 1 doubles action Heath Rigby and Thomas McCowan lost 6-0, 6-2 to Blake Fiechter and Levi Gerber.

Junior varsity

The Patriots dropped two of three matches, with the long win coming in doubles action.

Chase Wellman and Jared Valentine teamed up for the victory, defeating Jared Meyer and Joel Sauer 8-2.

They each lost in their efforts in singles action - Wellman 8-7 (8-6) to Thye Petty and Valentine 8-2 to Jason Werling.[[In-content Ad]]
